Some Thoughts and Thanks

Seems like its been ages since I posted anything. There has been quite a lot happening lately. Just seems like I haven't been able to get it down on the ole blog.

I didn't think I'd be cutting meat again since leaving Marsh in January. But looks like the old butcher will be back at it next month at a new butcher shop in Muncie. Fisher's Packaging in Portland is opening a new shop on north walnut st. in Muncie around the middle of June, and yours truly will be doing what he loves to do again. Stop in and say Hi and get some GOOD meat for a change. LOL Til I start for Fisher's, you'll find me at Dollar General in Winchester, ringin' ya up. LOL

My mother Louise Phelps recently had cataracts removed from both eyes and get this; she can see and read without glasses. Which is amazing. She's had to wear glasses for 72 years. I am so happy for her. She now is seeing better than she ever has and is so thankful, as am I.

I also can't put into words how awesome it was to see my brother attend the early service with mom on Mother's Day. I know he's about to receive the Holy Spirit into his heart and I can't give enough praise for that. Our family loves music, especially my brother. And its thru gospel music that the Holy Spirit is reaching him. Amen!!!!!!!!

My daughter Nicole is going great. She recently had some oral surgery and is recovering very well. She wants a Big Mac though. LOLOL Guess that'll come in time.
Other than that, she's growing like a normal 23 year old. LOLOLOL She's a real gem.

My son Derrick, will be graduating from Winchester High School next week. He plans on entering the Air Force in late summer or early fall. He wants to do summer band one last time, then get down to it. LOLOL I could not ask for a better son. God surely blessed me.

Well thats all the latest I can think of right now. LOLOL I know that there are lots of us that are wondering if God is with us and hearing our prayers. For me, I know he is and is blessing me in so many ways. There is a gospel song that I've heard the Talleys sing and its titled "He's An On Time God". The chorus says it all. "He's an on time God, Yes He is. On time God, Yes He is! Well He may not come when ya want Him, But he'll be there right on time. He's an on time God, yes He is.
If you have talked and prayed to Him and are wondering when your prayers will be answered, Just remember the words in the chorus of that song, because He will be there right on time.

God Bless Ya'll, Hope to see ya at Farmland Friends Church, your invited!

A lil history lesson on Mother's Day

History of Mother's Day: Anna Jarvis
Anna Jarvis is recognised as the Founder of Mothers Day in US. Though Anna Jarvis never married and never had kids, she is also known as the Mother of Mothers Day, an apt title for the lady who worked hard to bestow honor on all mothers.

Anna Jarvis got the inspiration of celebrating Mothers Day from her own mother Mrs Anna Marie Reeves Jarvis in her childhood. An activist and social worker, Mrs Jarvis used to express her desire that someday someone must honor all mothers, living and dead, and pay tribute to the contributions made by them.

A loving daughter, Anna never forgot her mothers word and when her mother died in 1905, she resolved to fulfill her mothers desire of having a mothers day. Growing negligent attitude of adult Americans towards their mothers and a desire to honor her mothers soared her ambitions.

To begin with Anna, send Carnations in the church service in Grafton, West Virginia to honor her mother. Carnations were her mothers favorite flower and Anna felt that they symbolised a mothers pure love. Later Anna along with her supporters wrote letters to people in positions of power lobbying for the official declaration of Mothers Day holiday. The hard work paid off. By 1911, Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state in the Union and on May 8, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

Today Mothers Day is celebrated in several countries including US, UK, India, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, Mexico, Canada, China, Japan and Belgium. People take the day as an opportunity to pay tribute to their mothers and thank them for all their love and support. The day has become hugely popular and in several countries phone lines witness maximum traffic. There is also a tradition of gifting flowers, cards and others gift to mothers on the Mothers Day. The festival has become commercialised to a great extent. Florists, card manufacturers and gift sellers see huge business potential in the day and make good money through a rigorous advertising campaign.

It is unfortunate to note that Ms Anna Jarvis, who devoted her life for the declaration of Mothers Day holiday was deeply hurt to note the huge commercialisation of the day.

So no matter whether you mother is still with us here on earth or has gone on to be with the Lord in Heaven. Give thanks to God for your "Mom". Without her, there would be no you.

I Owe You Mom

About 20 some years ago when I was working as a DJ at a local radio station in Connersville, Mothers Day was approaching. Like all kids, they want to give their mother something special to show their love for them and just how much they mean to us.

I had shopped and searched for days and then all of a sudden I found what I thought was something that expressed exactly how I feel about my Mom. It still stands true today and even more so. It was a recording by country artist Jimmy Dean. Yeh the sausage guy. It was titled "I Owe You".

I still have the cassette I made of it way back then and thought I'd post the lyrics on here for you to read. I'm sure many of you will be able to relate them to your mom as well.

"I Owe You" by Jimmy Dean

You know most people look through their wallets or their pocket books
and way down at the bottom, past their credit cards and the baby pictures
and green stamps, you can usually find a little ole dog-eared piece of poetry of some kind ...

'I was cleanin' out my wallet the other day and I ran across a whole bunch of IOU's some of 'em 30 years overdue. And the funny thing is that all these IOU's are owed to one person, and I just kinda thought that maybe now might be a pretty good time for an accounting ...

'Mom? You listenin'?'

'Mom, I owe you for so many things, a lot of different services, like Night Watchman for instance, for lyin' awake nights listenin' for coughs, cries and creakin' floorboards, and me comin' in too late. Oh, you had the eye of an eagle, the roar of a lion, but ya always had a heart as big as a house.

'I owe you for services as a short order cook, chef, baker, for makin' sirloin outta hamburger, turkey outta tuna fish and big old strappin' boys outta leftovers ...

'I owe you for cleanin' services, for the daily scrubbin' of face and ears, all work done by hand, and for the frequent dustin' of a small boy's pants to try to make sure that he led a spotless life, and for washin' and ironin' that no laundry could ever do, for dryin' the tears of childhood, and for ironin' out the problems of growin' up ...

'I owe you for services as a bodyguard, for protectin' me from the terrors of thunderstorms and nightmares, and too many green apples ...

'And Lord knows I owe you for medical attention, for nursin' me through measles, mumps, bruises, bumps, splinters and spring fever. And let's not forget medical advice either. Oh no, important things like 'if you don't quit scratchin' that it ain't never gonna' get well,' and 'if ya cross your eyes like that they're gonna stick like that' and probably the most important was, 'boy, you be sure you've got on clean underwear in case you're in an accident.'

'And I owe you for veterinarian services, for feedin' every lost dog that I dragged home at the end of a rope, for healin' the pains of puppy love ...

'And I owe you for entertainment, entertainment that kept the household goin' through some pretty tough times, for wonderful productions at Christmas, 4th of July, birthdays, and for somehow makin' ''make believe' come true on a very limited budget ...

'I own you for construction work, for buildin' kites, and confidence, and hopes and dreams and somehow ya made 'em all touch the sky, and for cementin' together a family, so that it could stand the worst kinds of shocks and blows, and for layin' down that good strong foundation to build a life on ....

'I owe you for carryin' charges, for carryin' me on your books for the necessities of life things that a growin' boy just gotta' have. Things like a pair of high top boots with a little pocket on the side for a jack knife ...

'And one thing, Mom, I will never ever forget when there were only two pieces of apple pie and three hungry people, I noticed that you were always the one that suddenly decided that you really weren't hungry any how ...

'These are just a few of the things for which payment is long overdue. The person I owe 'em to worked very, very cheap. She managed simply by doin' without a whole lotta things that she needed herself ...

'My IOU's add up to much more than I could ever ever hope to repay. But you know the nicest thing about it all is that I know that she'll mark the whole bill 'paid in full' for just one kiss, and four little words ...

'Ma, I love you.'

That little song expressed how I felt about my Mom decades ago. And its even more true today. So once again I'll say: "Mom,I Love You!"

Some Chuckles.

TOP TEN SIGNS YOU MAY NOT BE READING YOUR BIBLE ENOUGH:

10) The Preacher announces the sermon is from Galatians ... and you check the table of contents.
9) You think Abraham, Isaac & Jacob may have had a few hit songs during the 60's.
8) You open to the Gospel of Luke and a WWII Savings Bond falls out.
7) Your favorite Old Testament Patriarch is Hercules.
6) A small family of woodchucks has taken up residence in the Psalms of your Bible.
5) You become frustrated because Charlton Heston isn't listed in either the Concordance or the Table of Contents.
4) Catching the kids reading the Song of Solomon, you demand: "Who gave you this stuff?"
3) You think the Minor Prophets worked in the quarries.
2) You keep falling for it every time when Pastor tells you to turn to First Condominiums.
And the number one sign you may not be reading your Bible enough:
1) The kids keep asking too many questions about your usual bedtime story: "Jonah the Shepherd Boy and His Ark of Many Colors."

A little boy opened the big and old family Bible with fascination, looking at the old pages as he turned them. Then something fell out, and he picked it up and looked at it closely. It was an old leaf from a tree that had been pressed in between the pages.
"Momma, look what I found," the boy called out.
"What have you got there, dear?" his mother asked.
With astonishment in the his voice, he answered, "It's Adam's Suit!"

A child came home from Sunday School and told his mother that he had learned a new song about a cross-eyed bear named Gladly. It took his mother a while before she realized that the hymn was really "Gladly The Cross I'd Bear,"

Here is the LOST CHAPTER IN GENESIS....
Adam was walking around the garden of Eden feeling very lonely, so God asked him,
"What is wrong with you?"
Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to.
God said that He was going to make Adam a companion and that it would be a woman.
He said,
"This person will gather food for you, cook for you, and when you discover clothing she'll wash it for you. She will always agree with every decision you make. She will bear your children and never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. She will not nag you and will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you've had a disagreement. She will never have a headache and will freely give you love and passion whenever you need it.

Adam asked God, "What will a woman like this cost?"
God replied, "An arm and a leg."
Then Adam asked, "What can I get for a rib?"
The rest is history..

Today Is The Day.

Woooooo Hooooo Today is the day I finally get to return to the workforce. Last Sunday I got a call from the manager at the Dollar General store in Winchester asking me if I had found a job yet. She said she had an opening as a sales associate that would allow me to advance up through the ranks. Needless to say I told her that I would TAKE it. It has taken about a week to get through the hiring process, but today IS the day.

I am so thankful for everyones prayers and good thoughts for me. I know that God has indeed heard those prayers and is blessing me more and more every day. As it says in Psalm 119:59 "I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your statutes.

I know that it is still going to be a lil rough for a while, and that I will be tested and have some tribulations to go through. But with God in my heart and by my side, there is nothing that can't be accomplished.

Thankyou all once again for your thoughts and prayers. Keep em coming. God Bless you all and I'll see you in church Sunday.
